Product Description

ECPA Gold Medallion Award winner!

Opening in 1936, the Zion Covenant series tells the courageous and compelling stories of those who risk everything to stand against the growing tide of Nazi terrorism that is sweeping through central Europe under the dangerous and deceitful guise of Hitler''s Third Reich. A new study guide is included in each book.

From the Back Cover

No one is safe. . . .

In 1936 Nazi darkness descends upon Europe. Every person is only one step away from being swept into the nightmarish tide of evil. Blond Elisa Lindheim, a violinist with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, adopts an Aryan stage name for protection. But her closest friend, Leah, a talented Jewish cellist, is in a perilous position.

There are those who choose to fight Hitler''s madness. Elisa''s father, Theo. A courageous American reporter, John Murphy. Winston Churchill, the British statesman. A farm family in the Tyrolean Alps. The Jewish Underground. But will all their efforts be enough to stop the coming Holocaust?

And now Elisa must decide. If she becomes part of the Underground, she will risk everything . . . and put everyone she loves in danger.

I''m interested in reading historical fiction--especially about WWII, and this one is superb. It has more historical facts in it than I normally read, but I admit I''m learning a lot. The first introductory novel is VIENNA PRELUDE and, as you might suspect, concerns music, or rather a musician. Elisa Linder is really Elisa Lindheim--a Jewess. Being a beautiful blue-eyed blonde because of her mother''s Aryan blood, her father manages a Czech passport for her under the name Linder because he knows without a doubt trouble is brewing for the Jewish people of Germany in 1936. Lisa plays with the orchestra in Vienna, but will she truly be safe in Austria? In a short period of time, Lisa''s world comes tumbling down and she is forced to realize her beloved Austria is not the safehaven of which she was so sure. Consequently, her life will go in a direction of a different melody. It is not an "easy" or "quick" read, but it is a quality one. I have already begun Book 2 and highly recommend this series.

A story filled with engaging characters (including some well known people) from several different countries, depicting a time in history involving the entire world. Upon the latest reading, I stopped to "google" some of the characters and events. The accuracy speaks highly of the Thoene"s commitment to research. The cover pictures sometimes imply a romance type or appealing to one gender over another. This book series is enjoyable for ANY age/gender/belief reader. Edge-of-your-seat reading will not disappoint.

I enjoyed this novel. The main character was someone you knew well after a few chapters, and I found myself rooting for her, her friends and her love interests. Her adventures were exciting enough, and her love story was affecting. Once I began to care about the characters, I could easily ignore the problems with this book. I spent several late evenings reading this.

The problems are not too terrible. The author often tells the reader details that should be revealed through the story. The prose is slightly awkward throughout. There is a lot of coincidence in the plot. Some of the coincidences are so improbable that they began to annoy me.

There is also a good deal of historical detail in the story, which I enjoyed. The action unfolds in Berlin, Vienna, and Prague- in real places which are well described. Now I feel like seeing those places for myself. I feel as if I know them intimately.

This is the first book in a series: The Zion Covenant. I will read the next book in the series, because I am hooked. I want to know what happens to everyone!

I highly recommend this book and other of this series if you like factual filled History novels. Bodie Thoene and her husband Brock are excellent writers leaving you in anticipation to continue reading the story. Yet apprehensive to the point where you have to put the book down to gather your thoughts and heart rate to be able to move on. I have read their Zion Cronicle Series and even though I read them before starting to read the Zion Covenant Series. It has opened my eyes and mind thoughts giving World War 2 and pre years of what it was really like. I have developed a "relationship" with the main characters in these books. I want to continue getting to know them and find out what happens to them.

I purchased the Thoene Zion Covenant books in hard copy over 20 years ago, and have read them all. I thought it would be great to read them again on my Kindle. I''ve ordered all of the series, with the exception of "London Refrain". That one doesn''t seem to be available in the Kindle version.

I''ve now read the first four books, and can''t wait to finish the rest. I''ve always been interested in the history of World War II, perhaps because I was born at the beginning of it. These books bring to life what it must have been like at that time. I am impressed with the detail of the history, as well as the development of the characters. I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys historical fiction.

This book was recommended to me and I bought it before I knew it was a Christian book, which may have been a deal breaker. However I was pleasantly surprised, I really enjoyed it. Some people say it is slow in parts but I didn''t find this I felt the Christian passages a tad out of place. I have read many holocaust survivor stories and in everyone they have been thrust into crises of faith....and yet in this book the characters seem to have their faith strengthened by the horrors of the nazi regime. Saying that, these "Christian" italic passages are small and although a tad annoying by the end of the book, they don''t distract too much from the great storyline.
